A faju.art candle is made to be lived with, an artisinal creation. Here's how to get the most out of every burn — from the first light to the final flicker.
"The first burn sets the tone. Treat it well."
PLACE IT WITH INTENTION
Before you light, think about where your candle will sit. Protect surfaces — especially wood, marble, or anything you care about — with a stand or tray. Keep it away from curtains, open windows, and anything that moves air. A still environment means a steadier flame and a cleaner burn.
USE A MATCH
Strike a match rather than reaching for a lighter. It's a small thing, but it gives you more control and keeps the wick from being overwhelmed right away. Let the flame settle before you walk away. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
BURN IT ALL THE WAY ACROSS
This is the most important step, and the one most people skip. On every burn, but especially the first, let the wax melt all the way to the edges before you extinguish it. This takes around 4 hours. It prevents tunnelling: the hollow cylinder that forms when a candle is burned too briefly, trapping wax and fragrance on the sides. A full melt pool is a good burn.
SNUFF, DON'T BLOW
Blowing out a candle sends hot wax flying and fills the room with smoke. Use a snuffer instead — it's the cleaner, calmer way to end a burn. Once extinguished, if the wax is still liquid, recenter the wick using a trimmer or a toothpick. A centered wick burns more evenly next time.
TRIM THE WICK EVERY TIME
After each burn, once the wax has fully cooled, trim the wick to 3–5mm. A long wick smokes, flickers, and burns through wax too fast. A trimmed wick gives a cleaner flame, a stronger scent throw, and a longer life. It takes seconds. It's worth it.
KNOW WHEN TO STOP
Stop burning your candle when around 5mm of wax remains at the base, or when the metal wick sustainer becomes visible. Burning beyond this point risks overheating the vessel. Open a window after each burn — a moment of fresh air clears the room and keeps the fragrance from becoming heavy.
After the flame.
When the wax is gone, the vessel stays. Clean out any remaining wax with warm water and use the jar however you like — a small planter, a pen pot, a vessel for matches. Good objects don't end. They just change form.
Candle care isn't complicated. It's just paying attention — to the first burn, to the wick, to when to stop. The ritual is part of the experience.
Our candles are made to be used, not preserved. Light them often. Burn them properly. Let them fill the room.
